Cross-Frame/Diaphragm Locations Dialog

Opens when Cross-Frame/Diaphragm Locations is selected in the Superstructure group.
SettingDescription
Member Group Select the member group that CFDs are being located on from the drop-down list in the upper left corner of the dialog.
Bays This list will show the bays in the selected group. Bay01 is the leftmost bay when looking in the direction of increasing stations. Click on any bay to make it active for member definition activities.
Cross-Frame Type External and Internal. Internal cross-frames are available only for tub girders.
Add Press Add to add a cross frame to the grid for the currently selected bay.
Insert Press Insert to insert a cross frame to the grid for the currently selected bay. CFDs are inserted before the currently selected CFD in the list. The currently selected CFD will have a in the first column of the grid.
Delete Press Delete to delete the currently selected CFD from the grid. The currently selected CFD will have a in the first column of the grid.

SettingDescription
Location Type

Select the location type:

  • Relative will locate the CFD at a percentage of the member length.
  • Absolute will locate the CFD at a specified distance in feet from the beginning of the member.
  • Distance from prev will locate the CFD at the specified distance from the previous CFD.
Left Location
  • If the location type is Relative, enter the CFD left end location at a relative location, or percent of girder length.
  • If the location type is Absolute, enter the CFD left end location at the specified distance, in feet, from the beginning of the member .
  • If the location type is Distance from prev, enter the CFD left end location at the specified distance in feet from the previous CFD.
Link Left-Right This option toggles between Yes and No. If set to Yes, the left and right locations for the CFD are linked, meaning the location is determined solely by the Left location (i.e. the right location will move the same distance as the left).
Cross Frame/Diaphragm Select the CFD to be located from the list of previously defined CFDs.
CFD Orientation
  • Select Upstation to locate the CFD upstation from the connection plate.
  • Select Downstation to locate the CFD downstation from the connection plate.
  • Connection plates are added in the Stiffener Location Command.
Connection Type

This grid permits the user to select the connection type to be used.

Options are welded or bolted. This information is used to define the detail type for fatigue analysis.

Permanent/Temporary This option toggles between permanent and Temporary. Currently all CFDs are associated with the bridge model permanently.
Grid - Internal Internal cross-frames are available only for tub girders.
SettingDescription
Location Type

Select the location type:

  • Relative will locate the CFD at a percentage of the member length.
  • Absolute will locate the CFD at a specified distance in feet from the beginning of the member.
Left Location
  • If the location type is Relative, enter the CFD left end location at a relative location, or percent of girder length.
  • If the location type is Absolute, enter the CFD left end location at the specified distance, in feet, from the beginning of the member.
Link Left-Right

This option toggles between Yes and No. If set to Yes, the left and right locations for the CFD are linked, meaning the location is determined solely by the Left location (i.e. the right location will move the same distance as the left).

Cross-Frame

Select the CFD to be located from the list of previously defined CFDs.

Top flange Lat. Bracing

Define top flange lateral bracing between internal cross-frames. You can choose from the list of previously standard sections added.

Top flange lateral bracing orientation

Options available are Start Left - End Right or vice versa. Also, Alternate Lateral Bracing Orientation box could be toggled for alternating the orientation.

Save DGN

The following button will save the cross frame/diaphragm locations 2D model directly to MicroStation DGN file format, including layers. Save the DGN file in the desired location and once the export is successful you can browse to file location and open/view in MicroStation.

Locations Wizard There are two locations wizards, one to locate CFDs in bulk (multiple locations at once) and one to locate CFDs on a one by one basis. The Bulk Locations wizard allows multiple CFDs to be located in groups in a bay or for all bays at once. The One-by-One locations wizard provides refined options for locating single CFDs. Once the CFDs are located using the Wizard they can be manipulated individually as needed.
SettingDescription
Cross Frame Select the CFD to be located from the list of previously defined CFDs.
Bay Select the current bay or all bays for placement of the CFDs.
Location Wizard Select from the list of previously standard sections added
Orientation
Select the CFD Orientation:
  • Perpendicular orients the CFD perpendicular to the left member in the bay where the CDFs are being added.
  • Radial orients the CFD radial to the supports. If the supports have different skews the individual CFD skew angles will be interpolated based on the support skews.
Number of locations Select this option if the CFDs are being located by the number of locations. Given the start location and end location selected below, including any offset distances, the CFDs will be located at equal spaces.
Spacing Select this option if the CFDs will be located at prescribed spacing between one another. The system will locate as many CFDs as possible using the prescribed spacing.
Applied on Appears only if the Spacing method is selected. Select Left Member if the CFD is being applied relative to the left member. Select Right Member if the CFD is being applied relative to the right member.
Alignment
  • Select Left if the spacing is measured along the left side of the bay.
  • Select Center if the spacing is measured along the centerline of the bay.
  • Select Right if the spacing is measured along the right side of the bay.
From Support From the list of available supports, select the one that will be used to locate the beginning of the CFD group.
Offset Enter an optional offset, in feet, that will be applied to the From Pier location to define the beginning location.
To Support From the list of available supports, select the one that will be used to locate the end of the CFD group.
Offset Enter an optional offset, in feet, that will be applied to the To Pier location to define the end location.
Generate Press this button to generate the CFD locations according to the specified input. The CFDs will appear in the Grid and in the Graphic Display.
Close Press the button to close Locations Wizard window.
CFD Select the CFD to be located from the list of previously defined CFDs.
Along
  • Left member - the CFD will be located relative to the left member in the current bay
  • Right member - the CFD will be located relative to the right member in the current bay
Distance Enter the distance that the CDF will be located along the referenced member (left or right as selected in the Along option) from the feature (From option) selected below.
From Select the feature that will be used to measure the CFD location from. The distance entered above will be measured from this feature. Options are:
  • Previous CFD - the entered distance will be measured from the CFD just entered.
  • Member start - the entered distance will be measured from the start of the member.
  • Member end- the entered distance will be measured from the end of the member.
  • Specified CFD - the entered distance will be measured from a user specified CFD (See CFD: option).
  • Support - the entered distance will be from a user selected support (See Support: option).
CFD If the From feature is 'Specified CFD" this list will become active. Select the number of the CFD to be used.
Support If the From feature is 'Support" this list will become active. Select the number of the Support to be used.
Orientation Two options are available:
  • The cross frame will be orientated normal to the "Along" member selected above.
  • The cross frame will be orientated to the support selected in the next option.
Support If the Orientation is 'Support" this list will become active. Select the number of the Support to be used.
Undo Undo the last input.
Add Press Add to add the cross frame to the mode.
